Born in the East End of London and brought up in his parents home country, the Island of Dominica (Nature Island), ilie Kochie grew up living with and loving music. As a youth he would construct his own drum set out of whatever materials he could get his hands on. In his mid 20's he learned how to DJ on Jamaican sound systems in the outskirts of London. In his late 20's his singjay style got him discovered by a London producer and was asked to sing on a reggae version of the Sister Sledge song "We are a Family", which topped the International charts, storming to number one in Japan for 7 weeks, number 5 in Canada and entering the American Billboard Charts at number 27 and earned him an appearance on MTV back in the 90’s. This undoubtedly was the start of his professional career in music which was followed by a very successful night of music called Rub a Dub Jazz in New York City as well as being featured on several songs on the "Everything is wrong" album by Moby. iLie Kochie has toured the world writing, producing and performing for the past 25 plus years. He has worked with other artists, writers and producers such as Moby, Fela Kuti, Clark Gayton, the Fugees, and Andrea Martin just to name a few.
He describes his musical style as "Good Mood Music" and does not limit his creative ability to reggae music alone. In addition to reggae music his repertoire includes soca, jazz and zouk. His musical talents include his unique voice, his song writing with its solid lyrics and his instrumental abilities such as drums and bass. iLie Kochie is a well rounded musician and singer with a full understanding of his craft.
